About the event

Description: Beltane is an ancient fire festival that marks the beginning of summer. Traditionally, it was a time to celebrate fertility, the blossoming of life, and the power of the sun. Bonfires were lit to symbolise the warmth and energy of the sun, and people would dance around maypoles.

Where it’s celebrated: Beltane is widely celebrated in Scotland, especially in Edinburgh, where large public festivals and bonfires take place. Other rural areas, such as the Highlands and Islands, also observe the festival with traditional rituals.
